Session Descriptions

Session: School Culture

School culture refers to the shared beliefs, customs, and behavior in relation to academic, social, political, geographic, and communal institutions of an educational system. Such institutions must be clearly defined and embedded within the make-up of the school, and fostered by the school board, school district personnel, school administrators, teachers, students, parents and community partners in order to have a positive school culture.

As schedules, curriculum, demographics, policies, and social interactions give way to the “intangibles”, it is the intangibles that are a major determinant of success within a school.

Session: Leadership and Educational Vitality

Dynamic leadership engages the school and community in continuous school improvement focused on student learning and based on vision, data, knowledge of research, effective practice, and continuous monitoring and assessment that has resulted in high levels of student achievement and implementation of comprehensive plans to meet current and future practices.

Session: Implementation of the Action Plan

The practitioners’ of the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence methodology are sharing the proven strategies for addressing the 9 Strands. The Action Plan contained within the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Assessment Report can be a powerful tool for reforming a school from within. The session will tap into the plan-act-do methodology that fosters collaboration and encourages a visual tracking of progress and accountability.

Tackling the Action Plan can be daunting. This session will help your entire school community work toward a common goal; excellence.

Session: Active Teaching & Learning
There is clear and compelling evidence that purposeful decision-making should govern all aspects of the teaching and learning process. There is a discernable link between instructional strategies and student achievement. Within this session attendees will have an opportunity to learn the core competencies of instructional design and to share best practices.
