2015 Share Fair Nation - March 7th, 2015

A full day of learning and fun for everyone!

 

All community members are invited to Share Fair Nation, a day of free, interactive science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) learning and fun March 7 at River Bluff High School in Lexington, SC.

Hosted by the University of South Carolina College of Education and River Bluff High School, Share Fair Nation encourages students, families, educators, schools, community groups and leaders to explore, invent and experiment. 

 

Families and groups

Children of all ages will enjoy the STEAMosphere, a large, vendor-style event that highlights emerging technologies through multiple hands-on, interactive STEAM activities.

Note: Maximum of 5 persons per room. If you need more than one room, please book each room separately. An additional charge of $15 (per adult) will be applied to parties containing more than 2 adults.
 
First night’s lodging deposit will be required. It is necessary to provide a credit card to secure the room night. If using a purchase order, it may be necessary to contact Disney directly to finalize payment schedule.
 
In order to receive a full refund of your deposit, including credit card deposit transactions, notification of cancellation must be received five days prior to your arrival date. Please contact the Walt Disney World® Group Reservations office to cancel your request. Additionally, if you are holding any other reservations, they will not be modified or cancelled unless you advise us. The cancellation and refund policy is subject to change.

Pollyanna Buff has been an elementary school teacher for 19 years.  A graduate from Columbia College, with a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Mrs. Buff has taught second and fourth grade.  She has been a fourth grade teacher at Irmo Elementary in Irmo, South Carolina, since 1999.  Mrs. Buff has helped organize student council and a leadership program at her school- I am Gold. 

Mrs. Buff has been the lead elementary BOLT leader since July 2012 and is the director of BOLT this December.  She has recently earned her National Board Certification in language and literacy and was named Irmo Elementary School Teacher of the Year in 2015.

Christine Voigt is a secondary educator and award-winning author from Dallas, Texas. Her

background is in English, geography, and life sciences and her specialty is infusing technology across the curriculum. She currently serves as the Director of Instructional Technology at Bishop Dunne Catholic School. In addition to her work at Bishop Dunne she also serves as the President of the Geospatial Technology SIG (special interest group) of the Texas Computer Education

Agency. She has been recognized at the state and national levels for her contribution to geographic education and has received multiple honors for the books Mapping Our World: GIS in Education and the Our World book series.

Mrs. Voigt is an educator with over 20 years of experience and has worked with Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence for several years. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from SMU and is a member of Pi Lambda Theta Education Honor Society.

Kerry Gallagher is a Technology Integration Specialist at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Massachusetts. She taught middle and high school history in BYOD schools for 13 years and her classes were paperless. She received the 2014 Yale-Lynn Hall Teacher Action Research Prize, is a 2015 PBS Digital Innovator, and was recently recognized by Onalytica among the EdTech and Elearning: Top 100 Influencers and Brands.

Ms. Gallagher is a frequent contributing writer for EdSurge, Smarter Schools Project, ConnectSafely, and Corwin-Connect among other online publications. A sought-after speaker, she has appeared at ISTE, MassCUE, Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence National Conferences, and symposiums hosted by Harvard Law School, Stanford University, and Yale School of Management. She holds a B.A. from St. Anselm College and a J.D. from Massachusetts School of Law.

Disney Leadership Institute

Description of Program: Leadership Excellence explores strategies and methods for improving team results through exceptional and storytelling leadership, because without strong leadership, organizations will not grow or succeed.  Learn proven leadership philosophies used to exhibit the values and behaviors that generate results – period.

*Please wear comfortable attire and shoes as the session will include a walking tour of the "Utilidor".

Parent Meeting:  For parents and guardians with registered students at the Student Leadership Institute, please meet to gather an understanding of the Student Leadership Institute Schedule, Daily Check-in/Out Procedures, Q/A Session and Extensions to Leadership Institute.

The Disney Familiarization Sessions (Disney YES Program for Educators) Offering: The Students' Disney YES Program will focus on the following themes:

  • Individual Responsibility,
  • Communication, and
  • Teamwork.

Educators will participate in select Familiarization Programs to gather information and strategies to integrate similar activities within their classrooms. Please review each of the selected programs.
