Course Title: Why School Culture Matters: Building the Foundation for Effective Teams and Increased Student Achievement
Course Instructor: Marianne L. Lescher, Ph.D.
Session Schedule: Wednesday, 8 - 10:30 PM CST
A positive school culture exemplifies a caring community of learners that supports lifelong learning and continuous improvement. A supportive and healthy culture is one where all members of the school community, adults and students, are engaged together in collective inquiry, reflection, responsible decision-making, and a love of learning. Staff and families strive to provide opportunities for students to build sustained and caring relationships with adults and a healthy peer climate among students, and the existence of a safe, positive environment demonstrates that the school is focused on the welfare and continuous achievement of all students and staff.
This course will
- help participants understand the essential elements and components of a positive school culture;
- support participants in understanding the culture of their school by using inquiry and self-assessment tools;
assist participants in setting goals and creating action plan steps to enhance and improve the culture at their school.
