Course Number: SFCP 583
Course Title: Leveraging Partnerships to Increase School Effectiveness
Course Instructor: Crystal Scillitani
Session Schedule: Tuesday, 8 - 10 PM CST
A large body of research supports that there is a positive and convincing relationship between school, family, and community partnerships and benefits for students, including academic achievement. Regardless of income level or background, students whose families are involved in their learning earn better grades, take higher-level classes, have higher graduation rates and are more likely to enroll in postsecondary education. Family engagement positively impacts student attitudes towards school, attendance, and behavior.
The course will be devoted to the exploration of the knowledge, dispositions, and skills needed by school staff in order to understand and respond to diverse community interests and needs; collaborate effectively with families and community members; mobilize community resources to benefit students and families; and represent the school to the public through a variety of media and modes.
