Course Description:

“Children learn best when the significant adults in their lives -- parents, teachers, and other family and community members -- work together to encourage and support them.“ (Comer & Hayes, 1997)

Developing and sustaining meaningful partnerships with families and the community requires purposeful action. Students benefit in a number of ways by participating in a community that comes together around educational and civic goals reflective of their collective mission.

In this course, we will explore a variety of ways to engage communities and consider their effectiveness based on the needs and culture of your particular school community. Each participant will have the opportunity to expand his/her knowledge, skills, and attitudes regarding school, family, and community partnerships.
