Course Title: Abstract Concepts for Concrete Minds: Designing Lessons to Engage Middle School Students and Provide a Valuable Purpose for Learning
Course Instructor: Nicole McRee
With increasing class sizes and diverse class compositions, teaching hands-on science in middle school is a challenge. Multiple lessons and activities for teaching science concepts will be presented in a format that teachers can integrate immediately or modify to fit the needs of their students. This technique promotes experiential, authentic learning where students are encouraged to think critically and analytically. The ideas presented will promote active engagement and three-dimensional understanding. This course will assist current educators in modifying their material to provide a valuable and clear purpose for learning while integrating all of the Science and Engineering Practices. Rubrics will be shared, analyzed, and altered for each individual need.
